Hello and welcome!
This is the bit about me…
I’m Alex – I’m a married Mum of two gorgeous boys – Leonardo (born 2011) and Maximilian (born 2016). We live on the outskirts of London and I’m currently on maternity leave, looking after the boys. Fun (albeit busy!) times ahead for us then!
Through this blog, I hope to share some of the things that I feel passionately about, especially when it comes to living a conscious, eco-friendly and mindful life, as well as being kind to your own mind, body and soul – whilst also showing care and responsibility towards our beautiful Mother Nature.
In the past few years, my life has changed a lot, especially since becoming a Mum. With these new experiences, I have gained new wisdom and outlook on life. I feel more mindful of each day as it passes me and my family by, and I want to enjoy and remember every moment. In September 2015 though, my whole life shattered and stopped for a while as I suffered a heartbreaking missed miscarriage which left me question many things in life. Whilst no one was able to explain to me why the miscarriage happened (which I didn’t expect them to – more than one in five pregnancies ends in miscarriage in the UK and the reasons behind most of them are often unexplainable), I was desperate to find out why it happened to us.
I naturally started blaming myself, tracing every step I had taken prior to the miscarriage – was it because I’d had my hair or my nails done before I even knew I was pregnant? Was it something I had eaten or were there any harmful ingredients in the skin care products that I had used? And so what I did next was to investigate all the skin care products that I had used, in order to reassure myself and find some solace that there was nothing I could have done wrong. What I found out along the way was how little some of us know about what actually goes into our everyday skin care items and what potential effect they can have on our health. So ever since, I have been on a mission to share my newly found knowledge about harmful ingredients with those closest to me, mostly by rummaging through their make up bags and bathroom cupboards to check the labels 🙂
But I don’t want to stop with just friends and family which is where the idea behind this blog came about so that I can reach other like-minded people, and especially Mums. My intention for the blog is to dedicate a big chunk of it to my mission to investigate what really goes into our daily skin care products. I feel this is especially important if you have children who rely on us to choose the best possible care for them which can have life-changing consequences for them.
I am on a constant search for good-quality and, most importantly, affordable natural products, and my aim is to share this quest with you. I am by no means an expert on ingredients – I have simply spent many hours trawling the web and educating myself as best I can.
I also intend to share my broader interests and passion about following a healthy, natural and eco-friendly lifestyle so I hope you enjoy reading my posts and I welcome your comments.
I truly believe our every day choices and decisions have the power to change our lives, in turn causing a ripple effect and having an impact on the lives of others as well as our one and only planet! I like to think of this as a kind of a ‘butterfly effect’, hence the name of the blog.
As the blog posts grow, you can expect to find me musing on a variety of issues which will come under the following themes:
- Natural and organic skin care (including for babies and children)
- Healthy eating and living
- Eco-friendly and ethical lifestyle
- Parenting/ our family life and special times together
And finally, please remember – knowledge is power!
