I must be honest – I’m not very good at making these New Year resolutions, goals, intentions, whatever you want to call them. It’s all because I don’t like being disappointed when things don’t go the way I want them to so putting pressure on myself to make things happen can sometimes feel very overwhelming for me. I’ve always been like that but in the past few years, this anxiety to achieve certain things by a certain point in time sort of heightened – e.g. when other friends were having babies, buying their first homes or being promoted at work. Comparing yourself to others can be so damaging so my way to cope with the pressure was simply to think to myself “ok, I would love to get to point B in my life but it doesn’t really matter when it happens”. This sort of laid-back approach had worked so far at helping to reduce the peer/ society/ my own internal pressure and possible anxiety resulting out of the above, and so while we were away for Christmas, I just had this feeling like I had little to look forward to when, in fact, there’s lots of things I want to achieve in my life, both personally and professionally speaking. I was wandering for days thinking “where do I start with everything that I want to do when I don’t really have a plan?” And I meant to write and publish the list over the Christmas period but as we all ended up being ill one after another, I felt completely drained out of all energy and motivation and kept postponing it into this month… Then a few days ago I finally sat down and wrote down some goals for 2018. I thought I would share them with you – perhaps you’re struggling with setting yourself some goals and this may inspire you to drill down right to the basics – a resolutions list 🙂

So my personal goals for 2018 are:

  • Sleep more – get 6-7 hours of sleep at least 3-4 times a week
  • Go out for more walks and plan more activities for weekends, with the boys & the Hubby – min 1 a month
  • Lose weight – 2 stone by July (by ditching sugar & exercising more)
  • Start meal planning on Fridays for the following week
  • Find a nice, affordable holiday destination with guaranteed sun!
  • Book a few days off work to focus on myself & do things that make ME happy
  • Explore ways to save money and be more frugal as a family
  • Surprise my Mum, Dad and brother for their birthdays
  • Enrol on a photography course (intermediate level)
  • Enrol on a skincare formulating course
  • Learn calligraphy
  • Read more books – 12 by and of Dec 2018

My blog goals for 2018 are:

  • Grow my email subscription list – double it by the end of Dec 2018
  • Grow social media – double the numbers on each platform
  • Write 2-3 posts a week by planning a month in advance
  • Write a few guest posts for other bloggers
  • Start a business plan for my business idea ?
  • Develop a YouTube channel with 2 videos a week
  • Grow YT subscribers – up to 200 followers by the end of Dec 2018
  • Engage with other bloggers on collaborations
  • Say yes to things I’d normally shy away from (this applies to my whole life really)

So there you have it – quite a lot to achieve so can you see what I said about pressure & feeling overwhelmed? I’d really love to do a monthly post to check back in on how I’m doing with reaching these goals so watch this space for some updates!

Have you set yourself any goals this year?
